Major Charity Appeals
The COVID crisis has thrown new challenges with kids in hospital facing more isolation and loneliness than ever before. With over 600,000 children admitted to hospital each year, demand for Starlight’s programs is growing rapidly.
TOMRA and Cleanaway partnered with Starlight Children’s Foundation to create the ‘Container 4 Kids’ recycling Appeal, giving the opportunity to Aussies to turn their empty drink containers into smiles.
The #Containers4Kids Appeal has raised over $122K, helping brighten the lives of over 2,000 sick kids and their families.

In September 2019, 99% of NSW was officially in drought and 53% of the state was already in a state of “high fire danger”, and with the onset of summer, the situation was only going to get worse.
TOMRA recognised the need to do something, quickly, that would generate substantial funds to support farmers and rural families. The goal of the “Bottles for the Bush” recycling Appeal was to encourage the members of our community to donate 2.5 million of their empty drink containers over Summer 2019-20, and in doing so raise $250,000 to provide hay for livestock, essential water as well as food for struggling families.

During summer 2019/20 Australia was hit by the most catastrophic bushfires, killing or injuring over 3 billion animals.
The ‘Cans for Koalas’ recycling appeal was launched in February 2020 to give Australians an easy way to help WWF-Australia provide ongoing care to injured wildlife and restore natural habitats.
Despite the beginning of the pandemic, recyclers of NSW donated 1.44 Million drink container refunds to the Appeal by donating their eligible bottles and cans at their local Reverse Vending Machine, raising over $144k for WWF’s Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Fund.

As well as the significant health impact, Covid-19 brought emotional and financial hardship to many members of our community.
TOMRA partnered with three well-respected charities to support those in need by creating the ‘Bottles CAN Change Lives’ recycling appeal.
From August 2020 to February 2021, recyclers were able to donate their drink containers to either Beyond Blue, OzHarvest, or The Salvation Army directly from the screen of their local Reverse Vending Machine. NSW recyclers donated over 2.44 million drink container refunds, raising $244k that have helped our 3 charity partners support over 100,000 most vulnerable members of our community.

Community Fundraising Bottle and Can Drives
Also called ‘The new sausage sizzle”
A wide range of community groups proactively engages their volunteers and supporters to draw out as many drink containers as possible that they then return to their local machine or collection point to cash in the refunds.
Each one of these organisations decide to use the scheme to help the environment and reduce litter by placing “donation bins” or “large donation bags” at their local schools, swimming pool, footy clubs, or caravan parks to collect cans and bottles. These are then returned to a collection point, and the resulting funds are channelled back into important community programs that make their communities a better place to live.
The funds raised help finance important programs, from drought assistance & fire relief projects to food relief in-school programs and a wide range of other vital community initiatives.
What our charity partners are saying:
The online registration and set-up was extremely simple and we were up and running in no time. Not only is the app enhancing our income but it also promotes recycling and litter reduction in our local community.
I found the myTOMRA app VERY easy to download and use. I like the fact that minimal steps were involved in registering. High praise from someone whose skills in the digital age are not great.
