The new Return and Earn app has launched in NSW

A new app is making it even easier and more convenient for NSW residents to help the environment and support their favourite charity through container recycling. The new Return and Earn app has launched with a range of features that make it easier for community groups and charities to raise much-needed funds while also making it easier for Return and Earn participants to find their nearest return point and manage their refunds.

Key features of the new Return and Earn app include:

  • Receipt of your container refund via digital voucher or direct to your bank account or Paypal account when using a Return and Earn machine
  • A new option to donate some or all of your refund to one of 140+ leading charities listed on the app when using a Return and Earn machine
  • Real-time live operational status of all 335 Return and Earn machines so that you “know before you go” – in case the RVM is currently full or needs servicing
  • Location of all 620+ return points across NSW featured on an interactive map including Google Maps directions & daily opening hours
  • Track your recycling return history and earn achievement badges

“These last four years of the scheme have really highlighted the potential for Return and Earn to become a mainstay of community fundraising activities. In developing this app, we wanted to make it even easier for charities to realise the fundraising benefits and easier for our customers to support important causes in the community,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.

New features will be added to the app in the coming months including a container eligibility checker tool and digital payment options for all return points including automated depots and over-the-counter locations.

“Return and Earn has been incredibly successful since launching in December 2017 with over 7.3 billion containers returned for recycling through the network. While we’re delighted with the success so far, all of us behind the scenes are committed to ongoing improvement to ensure the NSW community continues to realise the social, economic and environmental benefits of the scheme,” said Danielle Smalley, CEO of Exchange for Change, scheme coordinator for Return and Earn.

The Return and Earn app was developed by Return and Earn technology partner TOMRA in partnership with TOMRA Cleanaway and Exchange for Change. The new app replaces the myTOMRA app with all return history transferred to the new app once downloaded.

The Return and Earn app is available for download now from the Google or App Store. For more information about Return and Earn, see returnandearn.org.au.
